Mary J. Blige and ex-husband/manager Martin “Kendu” Isaacs settled two nights before her performance at the Academy Awards event on Sunday night. According to The Blast, Blige and Isaacs were expected to appear in court on Monday, but they could settle without showing up in court.
Their settlement’s specifics have not been made public. In 2016, the Grammy Award-winning artist filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the cause of the breakup. They had been wed for twelve years.
Despite Blige’s request for the court to reject any spousal support petitions, the court nonetheless ordered her to give her estranged husband $30,000 per month in temporary spousal support in June 2017.
According to court documents, Isaacs said he had “had bodily indications of stress and emotional distress from this case, which has forced him to become hospitalized,” according to documents from The Blast in January. He further says that without Blige’s financial assistance, he is “unemployable” and unable to pay his rent.
