Valheim is a game about exploring a vast fantasy world inspired by Norse mythology and Viking culture. You begin your adventure in the relatively peaceful centre of Valheim. The world becomes more difficult as you move away from the centre. However, you will also come across more valuable materials that you can use to create more lethal weapons and armour. You will also construct your own Viking strongholds and outposts all over the world. You will eventually build a mighty longship and sail the great oceans in search of exotic lands – but be wary of sailing too far.
Valheim, the famous Viking survival sim, is coming to Xbox and PC Game Pass, with full crossplay support with the Steam version of the game. Valheim will be released first on PC Game Pass in the fall of 2022. It will be available for Xbox Series X and S, as well as Xbox Game Pass, in early 2023.
Valheim was a 2021 breakout hit, selling nearly 6 million copies in its first five weeks on Steam Early Access and outpacing established titles like Dota 2 in terms of active players. Overall, it was one of the highest-earning games on Steam in 2021. Iron Gate’s initial development team consisted of only five people, but they have since added some new members.
“We’re doing our best,” Iron Gate co-founder Henrik Tornqvist told Engadget in March 2021. “It’s been pretty hectic around here since launch.”

Valheim offers an expansive, collaborative universe of hunting, crafting, sailing, building, and defeating mythical Norse beasts, and its release on Xbox Game Pass marks its first outside of the Steam ecosystem. With so many players already on Steam, crossplay support is critical.
