Antonio Ramiro Romo, better known by his stage name Tony Romo, was born on April 21, 1980, in San Diego, California, and is a professional American football quarterback who rose to prominence in the National Football League (NFL) in the early twenty-first century. Romo grew up primarily in southern Wisconsin, where he idolized Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre and later tried to imitate his aggressive, risk-taking style of play.
Romo was a standout athlete for Burlington (Wisconsin) High School, but he was overlooked by the top collegiate football programs. Romo eventually enrolled in Eastern Illinois University, a Division I-AA institution in Charleston, Illinois, despite his outstanding play. He won the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year award three times (from 2000 to 2002) while playing for Eastern Illinois, and in his senior year, he was named the best offensive player in Division I-AA, winning the Walter Payton Award.
