The wonderful Triangle Strategy (read more in our Triangle Strategy review) was recently released, and now Square Enix has revealed a brand-new IP with The Biofield Chronicle. There must be something in the air at the company.
This game appears to be Square’s interpretation of Fire Emblem and is an RPG with a focus on a complex yet creative real-time battle system, which is music to our ears. Speaking of music, the film’s orchestrated soundtrack was created by Ramin Djawadi, who is best known for his work on the television shows Game of Thrones, Westworld, Pacific Rim, and other projects.

The Diofield Chronicle Gameplay
The DioField Chronicle’s gameplay appears to be pretty distinctive in the crowded field of tactical role-playing games. “Real-Time Tactical Battle” will be the primary gameplay element (RTTB). It is a new warfare system that is focused on strategy, claims Square.
Success will depend on making quick assessments of the battlefield’s circumstances and then giving your troops clear instructions that make use of their strengths and weaknesses. The game features an isometric view, which is common in SRPGs.
This is Square Enix’s second strategy game to be released this year; the first, Triangle Strategy, is a Nintendo Switch-only title. The DioField Chronicle appears to be more influenced by real-time strategy games than Triangle Strategy, which sticks to a more conventional style of tactics-based gameplay.
