At the Xbox Game Showcase STALKER 2 Extended exhibition, the Ukrainian company provided fans with an update on themselves and the game. Because Kyiv, Ukraine, is embroiled in a conflict with Russia, the team has relocated work to a second studio in Prague, Czech Republic. Those who might have been moved have done so, while others work remotely and yet fight on the front lines.
Development in the game has restarted now that the teams are generally safe. To that aim, they’ve also unveiled a new video featuring footage from the game’s opening. We show how the player character gets inside the game’s setting, the radioactive heart of Chernobyl.
GSC Game World’s S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is a forthcoming first-person shooter survival horror video game. It will be the fourth game in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. video game series, the first to be published on consoles, and the first S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game in 13 years since the release of Call of Pripyat in 2009. It was first announced after the release of Call of Pripyat, with a release date of 2012, before being canceled the year before.
Years later, in 2018, the game reappeared, with production restarting and powered by Unreal Engine 5. The game was supposed to be released on December 8, 2022, but production was halted owing to the continuing conflict in Ukraine. The development team subsequently said on their official Discord channel that the development process is ongoing and that the release date is presently planned for 2023.
In addition, GSC Game World produced a brief developer diary film highlighting the facts of how the conflict-affected their work. It’s raw and may be difficult to see, but the team wanted to show the world what they’re up against and how they’re dealing with this one-of-a-kind situation. We’ve posted it below as well, and please be aware that it may contain disturbing scenes of the battle.

“Despite the continued sorrow and personal losses during this moment of terrible uncertainty in our life,” the squad concluded, “the team’s determination to perform a genuinely exceptional game is as strong as ever.” We want to show the world that Ukraine can be powerful not just on the battlefield, but also as a unique and unforgettable element of global culture.” S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl will now be released in 2023 for the Xbox Series X|S and PC.
