Atlus is developing and publishing a sequel to the role-playing video game Soul Hackers 2. It’s the fifth game in the Devil Summoner series, which is part of the wider Megami Tensei brand, and a sequel to 1997’s Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers. This is scheduled for release in August 2022 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox 360, Xbox 360 S, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S consoles.
The events of Soul Hackers 2 take place in the 21st century and take place during a fight between two rival groups of Devil Summoners known as the Yatagarasu and the Phantom Society. The plot revolves around two supernatural beings known as “Aion” named Ringo and Figure who come down from their birthplace in the data stream of information to the realm of humans in an effort to prevent a catastrophic occurrence that they believe would lead to the destruction of humanity.
When it comes to combat, Soul Hackers 2 takes inspiration from Shin Megami Tensei’s Press Turn system, another staple of turn-based RPGs. In battle, a party of four characters utilizes elemental affinities, a staple of the Megami Tensei series. Allies and foes take turns employing a wide variety of physical and magical assaults, including the ability to call upon demons to unleash elemental attacks.
In the event that the player is able to take advantage of an enemy’s or group of enemies’ vulnerability to a certain Skill, they will be able to use a Skill called “Sabbath,” which will do massive damage to every vulnerable enemy in the battle using all members of the active party.
It resembles, in idea, the Persona series’ “All-Out Attack” Skill. Another option for dealing with demon encounters is discussion, which can increase the demon’s interest in joining the group and potentially lead to successful recruiting. Demon fusion allows players to manually summon new demons by combining two or more recruited demons to create a hybrid demon with a unique set of skills drawn either at random or from both of the parent demons.

Light social simulation components are also included, which is a carryover from the Persona games and Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE (2015). The player assumes control of Ringo outside of combat, allowing her to explore the hub city at will and visit numerous landmarks including stores where she can outfit herself with new threads and weapons. The player can also choose to spend time with other party members outside of battle to forge stronger friendships and unlock special skills that can subsequently be deployed between party members in conflict.
It is anticipated that Soul Hackers 2 will be made available for purchase on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in the month of August 2022 around the globe. On August 25, 2022, it will be released in Japan, and the following day, it will be released internationally in English and Japanese audios in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese (Simplified and Traditional) subtitles.
Both English and Japanese audio will be available. In Japan, the release of the game will also be accompanied by a Soul Hackers 25th Anniversary Special Edition Box Set for the PlayStation versions of the game. This special edition box set will feature commemorative packaging, an art book featuring concept illustrations, setting art, and various staff interviews, an arrangement album featuring modern compositions of songs from the original Soul Hackers, and a figurine of a Jack Frost variant called Ai-Ho Kun, which is modeled after the game’s main protagonist, Riku.
Ai-Ho Kun will also be available as a summonable demon in the game as downloadable material (DLC), and he will be accompanied by another DLC package comprising items that personalize Ringo to resemble Mary, a supporting character in the first Soul Hackers game.
A first-print edition of the game will be made available on the day the game is released, and it will come bundled with downloadable content (DLC) costumes modeled after the main cast of Persona 5 (2016)[b]. Accompanying music DLC will also be made available, and it will enable the option to play Persona 5’s miniboss theme “Keeper of Lust” as the main battle track in the game.
In Japan, the game will be released by Atlus, who will also publish it; in North America, however, the game will be distributed by Atlus’s subsidiary, Atlus West. In the meantime, the game will be published for regions in Europe by the parent company, Sega. This is something that has been done with recent Megami Tensei games.
