The condo building collapsed at about 2:20 p.m. on the 3600 block of the Boardwalk, where the Spinnaker South Tower was located. Officials have stated that a worker was killed when a balcony above him crashed down. The authorities located his body at around 9:30 p.m. on Friday.

“We heard sirens off and on,” Steven Patton, a Sea Isle City resident, said in an interview with CBS News. “I knew it was something big. I could tell they were coming from out of the city. A lot of police activity going on.”

Authorities have determined that 43-year-old Philadelphia resident Jose Pereira was killed after he became trapped beneath a 30-foot-long concrete balcony.

He worked as a construction worker for Ferguson Contracting, a company from Yardley, Pennsylvania. “It’s a tragedy,” Patton said. . “It’s a shame. I just hope we learn from this.”

Minor injuries had also been reported by two other workers. The building owner has informed the occupants that the south tower is currently inaccessible until it has been declared safe by local inspectors.
