Right Wing De@th Squad: The Mysterious Symbol on the Texas Gunman’s Chest

Right Wing De@th Squad

Right Wing De@th Squad

The Washington Post reported on Sunday(7 May 2023) that sources had seen a tactical vest with an “RWDS” patch belonging to the guy police suspect k!lled at least eight people at a mall in Allen, Texas, on Saturday(6 May 2023) afternoon. This symbol, which reads “Right Wing Death Squad,” is often used by white nationalists, neo-Nazis, and paramilitaries.

Although police have not yet determined a motive for the sh00ting, reports indicate that the patch placement is one of several contributing reasons for investigating the tragedy as a possible act of domestic terrorism.

Eric Swalwell, a Representative, tweets regarding the Right Wing De@th Squad were posted on Twitter.

Mauricio Garcia, 33, the man police believe to be the sh00ter, has never been convicted of a crime. But the FBI files obtained by Rolling Stone reveal “hundreds of postings and images to include writings with racially or ethnically motivated violent extremist rhetoric, including neo-Nazi materials and material espousing the supremacy of the white race.” According to the publication, Garcia may have been connected to a local neo-Nazi organization.

Southern Poverty Law Center said members of far-right extremist organizations had been observed wearing the “RWDS” patch at marches and rallies in recent years, most notably in the days preceding the uprising on January 6, 2021, at the Capitol.

As reported by The New Yorker, on December 12, 2020, many members of the Proud Boys, a white supremacist group defined by the SPLC, met in Washington, D.C.’s Freedom Plaza to hear white nationalist Nick Fuentes speak while wearing “RWDS” caps and patches.

The SPLC reports that other Proud Boys were seen wearing the phrase on their tactical vests at a later demonstration when they torched a Black Lives Matter flag.

An active-duty U.S. Marine was reportedly under federal investigation in 2021 for allegedly plotting to attack the Democratic National Committee with explosives, rocket launchers, and automatic r!fles after being associated with a private chat group named “Right Wing Death Squad.”

On the other end of this news, you can also read about the deaths of other notable figures:

According to the SLPC, users of the now-defunct subreddit r/The_Donald frequently discussed going “full RWDS” in violent fantasies involving racial and religious minorities, suggesting that the phrase is part of the bizarre panoply of memes favored by white nationalists and far-right edge lords.

There were reports in 2018 that Proud Boys were coming up to demonstrations with the letters “RWDS” written on the sleeves of t-shirts that read another far-right cliché, this one about Chilean dictator and mass-murderer Gen. Augusto Pinochet: “Pinochet did nothing wrong.” The Intercept claims this statement supports and promotes “a program of extermination.”
