Racist Exchange At A World Cup Game With A Chinese Fan

Racist Exchange: Popular streamer IShowSpeed is under criticism for his egregious racist interaction with a Chinese fan at the World Cup, and many are pleading with him to change. IShowSpeed, who has 14 million YouTube subscribers and over 6 million Instagram followers, is in Qatar for a major soccer event and has spent a lot of time live streaming from the stands. The streamer draws attention to an Asian supporter wearing an Argentina jersey in the contentious video.

Speed appears to be pointing out that he doesn’t look Argentinian as he questions why he is wearing the gear. He then repeatedly yells “Konnichiwa!” towards the fan, which is a polite greeting in Japanese. The fan tries to clarify that he is not Japanese but Chinese, at which point ISS starts speaking incoherently and with an accent. Naturally, and properly so, Speed’s supporters have blasted the interaction in the comment area on his social media platforms.

Stop spewing bigotry and macroaggressions towards Asian people, one person said, and utilize your platform for something constructive. Added another “You let both Asian Americans and Asians worldwide down. Everyone makes errors. But mature. Try harder. Set a better example for young people.” Another simply said, “is how racism should be your new moniker going forward,” in their message. The 17-year-old made an effort to explain what he was thinking, but it wasn’t really helpful.

Following the complaints, IShowSpeed made an effort to provide an explanation, claiming that he mistakenly believed the man he was speaking to be Japanese and that he had been experiencing an adrenaline rush when he shot the video. It didn’t help him much, though, as he ended up getting into racial arguments with the guy of Chinese origin after being questioned about whether or not he was high.

Although he emphasized that he is not a racist and apologized if it came across that way, he has already lost several hundred followers as a result of his rants. Don’t forget to share this news with your loved ones, and check out Talkxbox.
