You’ll be glad to know that, in certain circumstances, the greatest PS4 games for kids and teens are also the best PS4 games for adults if you have kids. There are some true jewels among the many kid-friendly games that are just plain shovelware meant to occupy young minds without rewarding them.
The Tom’s Guide team has compiled ten of our absolute best PS4 games for kids, and we can confidently say that we would sit down and enjoy playing any one of these titles. Since the “mascot platformer” has been a kid-friendly favorite ever since Super Mario sprang his way through the Mushroom Kingdom back in 1985, platformers make up the majority of the games on this list.
We also have options for your youngster if they like open-world adventures, interactive sandbox games, or racing games. They can always check out the Family & Kids category in the PlayStation Store if none of these games catch their attention. Just keep in mind that some of those games are absolute garbage.
1. The N. Sane Trilogy of Crash Bandicoot
You’ll be glad to know that your kids may now play Crash Bandicoot games on the PS4 if you played those games as a kid. Fair warning: you may also be astonished by how quickly and relentlessly time passes. The first three games in the series are collected in The Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, which also includes updates to the graphics and performance.
Although the games might be somewhat challenging, they are also cheerful, colorful, and upbeat. Since Crash appears in a famous level in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, they might also provide your child a slight advantage there.
Hot Wheels Unleashed 2.
Children enjoy playing racing games and collecting die-cast automobiles. These two age-old activities are combined in Hot Wheels Unleashed, a fast-paced arcade racer with a surprising depth. You may compete in races with other toy cars, develop your abilities in a single-player campaign mode, test your speed in time trials, and even create your own courses with the help of a powerful track editor.

There are 60 playable cars in Hot Wheels Unleashed, and as it is based on a real toy line, some of your child’s favorites may be included. Parental control is also possible with split-screen multiplayer.
Marvel’s Spider-Man, third
Given that the game is labeled T and clearly targets an older audience, Marvel’s Spider-Man cheats a little. However, Spider-Man is definitely appropriate for tweens as well if you don’t mind some little violence and cursing.
Spider-Man on PS4 captures the genuine core of the character even better than in the most recent Marvel Cinematic Universe films, pushing him to make difficult moral decisions while defending the city he loves. The action has many levels of difficulty to accommodate players of all skill levels, and the web-slinging feels absolutely amazing, from the daring leaps to the quick dives.
The video game Minecraft doesn’t need an introduction. If your kid enjoys stealing your phone and constructing their own blocky fantasy world, just imagine how much happier they’ll be when they have a full, large screen to play on. (And how much more content you’ll be when you get your device back.)
For those who haven’t played it, Minecraft is a creative simulation game in which players scavenge for resources in a pixelated fantasy world and then utilize those resources to construct amazing constructions. If you could use Legos to construct life-size castles, it would be a bit like playing with digital Legos.
5. The Tale of New Super Lucky
There is nothing more wholesome than a classic cartoon platformer, and New Super Lucky’s Tale is just that. You take on the role of Lucky, a fox with a cape that travels through a vibrant fantasy world to defend the potent Book of Ages from Jinx, a villain.
With stages that are both 2D and 3D and a range of puzzles to solve, New Super Lucky’s Tale offers a tonne of diversity. But the nicest thing about New Super Lucky’s Tale is that it’s just a terrific game with a length and level of challenges that are appropriate for its young target demographic.
Lego DC Super-Villains is a 6.
One of the more recent licensed Lego games is Lego DC Super-Villains, but virtually any Lego game will work here. Star Wars, Harry Potter, The Avengers, and many other well-known franchises are all featured in Lego games.
However, Lego DC Super-Villains has a delightfully nasty quality that allows you to, for a change, discipline the good guys. You take on the roles of the Joker, Lex Luthor, Cheetah, and other beloved villains as they battle the Justice League in a surprisingly engaging original tale. This Lego game is cooperative, like most of them, so you may play with your kid.
One of the best PS4 games ever made is Ratchet & Clank (2016), which is also one of the top PS4 games overall. Don’t let the fact that this revival of Insomniac’s venerable franchise was connected to the disastrous film of the same name turn you off.
The Ratchet & Clank game provided lots of time to let the story breathe, as well as a number of fascinating worlds to explore and rewarding gadgets to gather, whereas the Ratchet & Clank movie seemed heavy and predictable. However, the game contains some risqué humor that young children might not completely understand, so don’t be surprised if you find yourself creating your own save file.
Sackboy: A Great Adventure, No. 8
Since the PS3 era, LittleBigPlanet has been a mainstay for families, and Sackboy: A Big Adventure is the most recent installment. As the titular hero navigates a succession of 3D platforming obstacles, you assume control of him.
There is a straightforward plot, but that isn’t the main attraction. Instead, Sackboy: A Big Adventure makes its argument through imaginative and striking images. Everything in the game appears to have been taken from a bright crafts store. The fact that each challenging level may be completed by up to four players is fantastic news for siblings who enjoy playing together.
