On Friday night, the 2023 NHL All-Star Skills competition took place. While several NHL players were present, Sergei Ovechkin was the true star of the show. As he assisted his father and Penguins captain Sidney Crosby in the Breakaway Challenge, the 4-year-old son of Capitals star Alex Ovechkin garnered one of the loudest cheers of the night.
Although it had been made known in advance that Crosby and Ovechkin would be working together for the occasion, the South Florida crowd got a little surprise when Ovechkin beckoned for his kid to join him on the ice.
Ovi Jr. quickly entered the game and lost a 3-on-0 match with his father and Crosby. Roberto Luongo, a former goalie for the Panthers and a famous guest, was fooled by him as he advanced the puck. As a result of Sergei’s assistance, the trio won the Breakaway Challenge with a flawless score from the judges. The team won the competition by defeating forwards David Pastrnak of the Bruins, Matthew Tkachuk of the Panthers, and Mitch Marner of the Maple Leafs.
