Johnny Depp hit me on honeymoon, says Amber Heard

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard are right now involved in a defamation case. For the uninitiated Depp is suing his ex for $50 million over an article she wrote for The Washington Post where she claimed to be a victim of domestic violence. Despite the fact that she didn’t name him, the actor, who has been repeatedly denying any abuse, said that it destroyed his reputation. The high-profile case being held in Virginia continued for the fifth week on May 16 after a pause. Amber Heard gave her testimony during the hearing and recalled how Depp physically assaulted her during their honeymoon.

In court on Monday, Amber Heard told the jurors in tears that she believed she would likely not survive if she had remained married to Johnny Depp. In any case, she said that she loved him a lot. “I was so scared that it was going to end really badly for me. At the time it felt like the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do,” Heard said of filing for divorce. “I had worked so hard to try to make this relationship work.”

“I was so scared that it was going to end really badly for me,” she said. “I really didn’t want to leave him. I loved him so much.”

Amber Heard has often accused Johnny Depp of physical abuse on her. During the trial, the actress said that he attacked her during their honeymoon too. This occurred when the ex-couple was traveling on the Orient Express train in Asia after their February 2015 wedding. Amber claimed that Depp struck her and held her by the neck while in their sleeper compartment.

She said, “He was squeezing my neck against the railway car for what felt like a very long time.” Amber said she recalled thinking he could “kill me”. “I remember being scared that he wouldn’t mean to do it,” she said.In another case, Amber explained how Depp allegedly became jealous after she was offered a role with James Franco. She claimed he punched her and threw her into furniture.

Amber Heard also described her marriage as “at times, very loving”. Notwithstanding, she said that it deteriorated over a period of time so much so that tension and violence became “almost normal”. During their increasingly frequent arguments, Amber claimed that Depp would frequently self-harm.

“In fights he would often cut his arms or hold his knife to his chest or draw blood, superficially at first,” she said. “He also put cigarettes out on himself.”

Heard said that Depp would turn into a “monster” when he was drinking and her efforts to curtail his drug and alcohol use had failed. “The monster had been this thing that was now the normal and not the exception,” she said. “The violence was now normal.”

Depp’s lawyer challenged Amber Heard’s version of events after her testimony. Lawyer Camille Vasquez started her cross-examination and asked why there were so few photos and medical records to back up claims of physical injuries from her alleged beatings.

The actress said that she was embarrassed to be a victim of abuse, hence, she didn’t seek medical treatment “other than my therapist”. She also asserted she used cosmetics to cover bruises and ice to reduce swelling. Vasquez also forced the actor to acknowledge that she had “pledged” to donate the entirety of her $7m divorce settlement with Mr Depp to charity but was yet to make any donation.
