Why Da House Kicked Ilhan Omar Off The Foreign Affairs Committee?
Following the discussion on the House Floor on Tuesday morning, the House of Meeks issued a statement announcing that Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota had been removed from the Foreign Affairs Committee due to prior remarks she had made concerning Israel. According to the statement, “Today’s vote is not a reflection of Representative Omar, but rather on the blatant hypocrisy of Republican leadership, which has used its influence to punish political rivals and, in the case of Omar, punish a Member to appease the extreme MAGA (Make America Great Again) wing of their party.

Omar was removed from the House as a result of what Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) recently referred to as “repeated antisemitic and anti-American statements” that she had made while serving in the chamber. According to The Washington Post, Omar’s 2019 tweet, “It’s all about the Benjamins baby,” which implied Israel’s political backers in the US were driven by money rather than principles, was explicitly condemned by the resolution.
