GoldenEye 007 Remastered Gameplay
GoldenEye 007 was first made available for the Nintendo 64 in 1997. It was created by Rare and released by Nintendo, and its multiplayer mode later became a cult favorite. Many people still adore the game a great deal.
Over the years, several attempts have been made to duplicate the magic of the original GoldenEye game, including the Activision-published GoldenEye 007 that was released in 2010 for the Wii, Nintendo DS, Xbox 360, and PS3.
However, that game did not get as much acclaim as the original because it made the unexpected decision to replace Pierce Brosnan with Daniel Craig. Rumors about a remake of the game for current-generation consoles by Rare’s (now-owned by Xbox) developers have been circulating for years, but nothing has been officially revealed.
Yet it is already a reality! It’s interesting to note that there have been two announcements made here that conflict: Nintendo has been promoting the online play feature, whereas the Xbox has only mentioned achievements, 4K resolution, and a better frame rate in all of its interactions (while not mentioning online play at all).

This discrepancy has led to rumors that the Xbox and Nintendo consoles will receive different versions of the game (with the Xbox receiving the visual upgrade features and the Nintendo receiving the online features). We’ll update this page if/when more information is available.
GoldenEye 007 Is Coming To Xbox Game Pass And Nintendo Switch Online!
Play the game online for the first time: GoldenEye 007, a classic Bond video game, will be available on Xbox Game Pass and Nintendo Switch Online. The Nintendo 64 classic will soon be available through the Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Switch Online service, as was initially revealed during the most recent Nintendo Direct show. Microsoft also confirmed the rumors that a 4K resolution remaster is coming to Xbox Game Pass today (September 13).
Online play will only be available on the new Switch edition of the 1997 game, enabling 007 enthusiasts worldwide to participate in the game’s well-liked four-player cooperative mode. A sequence of levels in the well-known game, based on the 1995 movie, lets players take control of Bond as it follows the plot of the GoldenEye movie.
Up to four players can compete in various scenarios in the multiplayer mode that borrow ideas from the movies You Only Live Twice, The Living Daylights, The Man with the Golden Gun, and Licence to Kill. GoldenEye 007, one of the most important and influential games in the first-person shooter genre, is the third best-selling Nintendo 64 game of all time.
NBA 2k23‘s Projected Release Date Has Been Confirmed As September 9, 2022. Michael Jordan Will Serve As The Cover Athlete For The Game’s Unique Editions, Which Come With Added Features, Including A 12-month Membership To NBA League Pass, While Devin Booker Will Serve As The Cover Athlete For The Ordinary Edition.
Systems Are Compatible With GoldenEye 007
Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch all support GoldenEye 007 Remastered. You might not want to anticipate seeing the game on PS4, PS5, or PC since those are the only officially-confirmed platforms. But if we learn anything, we’ll let you know.
Switch: “Coming Soon With Online Play”!
The name of the upcoming mainline Legend of Zelda game was finally revealed as part of Nintendo’s most recent Nintendo Direct announcement frenzy, including the initial confirmation. One presentation section was devoted to the $50 yearly Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack membership service, which features several downloadable N64 games.
The familiar MIDI tones of the GoldenEye 007 intro started playing after Nintendo announced eight more first-party N64 gems coming to the service in 2022 or 2023, each with a clear look at their emulated gameplay. Next, it appeared that the Switch’s N64 emulator directly emulated the N64 version of Bond walking in front of a gun barrel (meaning that a pattern of dots and a Switch profile icon fills its unused widescreen portions).
Nintendo only said the game is “coming soon with online play,” without providing a specific release date. [Update: The game on the NSO Expansion Pack will be released in “2023,” according to the Japanese version of today’s Nintendo Direct. It is presently unknown if other territories will receive the game earlier.]
The online multiplayer feature of GoldenEye 007 appears to function inside the console’s N64 emulator, which is the worst news about the Nintendo portion of the event. Due to a delay-based netcode model that takes player input and attempts to bounce it over three other locally emulated versions of the game, this particular kind of online play is infamous for its lag and chugging. If Rare, the company credited with creating the game, were to create a more efficient first-person shooter netcode emulation model for Switch, we’d want to be proven wrong.
News For Xbox Version
Rare verified the long-running rumor on the technology front that it is also creating a port of GoldenEye 007 for Xbox systems, which is perhaps better news. This new statement confirmed the previously reported achievement support, a jump to “4K resolution” on compatible consoles (presumably the Xbox Series X and Xbox One X), and “smoother” performance whether playing alone or on a split-screen with four other people.
omg it's happening, GoldenEye 007 is coming to Nintendo Switch and Xbox soon! It will be on Xbox Game Pass and include 4K support, better framerates, and split-screen local multiplayer. Full details here: https://t.co/nNwdNBkeyp pic.twitter.com/tL4VKPn3gz

On three key fronts, though, we’re left to interpret the meaning inferred. The first is that the Xbox version may not support the touted “online play” on the Switch. The only multiplayer option mentioned by Rare in today’s news is “split-screen,” If online play is not included, it would be a conspicuous absence.
After all, Microsoft and Rare worked together to rerelease Perfect Dark for the Xbox 360, which has online lobbies. Until we hear differently on this front, we’re assuming the worst. [Update: The official 007 websites has confirmed that the Nintendo Switch version will be the only one with online multiplayer.]
