God Of War Ragnarok Story
The “big winter,” or Fimbulwinter, is already underway. As Asgardian armies prepare for a conflict that will supposedly end the world, Kratos and Atreus are forced to travel to each of the Nine Realms in search of answers.
They will pass through breathtaking mythological places and face terrifying foes in the shape of Norse gods and monsters. Ragnarök, the ultimate end of the planet, is becoming a more significant threat. Between their security and the security of the realms, Kratos and Atreus must make a decision.
Although director Eric Williams revealed a new aspect of the sequel would be Kratos struggling with the notion that his son is Loki and his wife concealed that information from him, Santa Monica Studio has mainly remained mum about story elements. Ragnarok will again strike a mix between epic setpieces and more intimate “slice-of-life” scenes like its predecessor.
Characters including Kratos, Atreus, Freya, Mimir, Brok, and Sindri are returning. Thor, the Norse God of Thunder; Tyr, the Norse God of War; Durlin, the giantess Angrboda; and Odin, the leader of the Norse Gods, are among the new characters.
In contrast to God of War, where players could only visit six realms, Ragnarok will allow them to travel to all nine. Vanaheim, Svartalfheim, and Asgard are the three unknown regions. Which Is Better For Gaming: Amd Or Intel? Which Cpu Should I Pick If I Want To Game?
Recap Of God Of War Story!
The events of 2018’s God of War are set far after those of the original trilogy and move our hero Kratos from Greek mythology into the Norse. The game’s first scene shows Kratos and his son Atreus getting ready for Faye’s funeral—she was Kratos’ second wife and Atreus’ mother.
After a memorable battle with The Stranger, who is eventually identified as Baldur, the Norse God of Light, Kratos and Atreus set out to carry out Faye’s dying wish—that her ashes be spread from the summit of the tallest peak in the realms. The voyage of the two starts at this point.
Kratos and Atreus explore their interpersonal drama, precisely Kratos’s shortcomings as a father and his hidden identity as a half-god that he’s chosen to hide to move on from the atrocities he committed throughout the previous God of War games, as they encounter (and frequently battle) mythical beings and gods from Norse mythology.
Freya, who we learn is herself a deity and the mother of Baldur, with whom she shares a troubled connection, joins Kratos and Atreus on their mission (to put it mildly). To save Freya against her will, Kratos steps in during a family argument and kills Baldur. She then promises Kratos that she will “rain down every misery, every transgression imaginable,” establishing her as one of the two antagonists of Ragnarok.
After telling Atreus about his background, Kratos leads them up the mountain to finish their mission by dispersing Frey’s ashes. They also learn that the Jotnar giants had predicted their entire voyage from the mountaintop. Kratos sees a mural of what might yet be to come, depicting a dying Kratos held by Atreus with a serpent emerging from his mouth.
Atreus is revealed to be the trickster god Loki in a climactic revelation. Thor, the other main antagonist of Ragnarok, is introduced in a post-credits scene. How Can I Install Discord On My PS4 And PS5 In 2022? An exhaustive Walkthrough!
The game has a lot more twists, turns, and noteworthy character introductions than we’ve covered here for conciseness, but it is well worth playing through yourself. The video below gives a thorough summary of the narrative.
God Of War Ragnarok Gameplay
Ragnarok will fluctuate between “huge show-stopper bosses,” smaller-scale brawls, and calmer moments between Kratos and Atreus, similar to 2018’s God of War. The fighting options within those moments may be familiar, but they have been enhanced, as shown in the gameplay trailer for Ragnarok, which featured new attack skills for Kratos and a new Runic Summon for Atreus.
Kratos will have access to his Leviathan Axe, Blades of Chaos, and Guardian Shield “with a variety of new powers,” as stated on Ragnarok’s PS Store page. Kratos’ use of the Blades of Chaos as a grappling hook to scale walls (similar to Halo Infinite) and close the distance between adversaries (identical to Mortal Kombat) is one of these new skills. Check it out yourself:
Additionally, Kratos has mastered weapon signature moves. The Leviathan Axe and the Blades of Chaos get elemental damage when Kratos uses his Weapon Signature Moves, activated by pressing Triangle.
The Stalker, which resembles a centaur, is only one of the new Norse creatures that can be engaged with the use of these new skills (seen below). In the most recent CG video, we also saw a peek at the wolf-giant Fenrir. However, it remains to be seen if he will be an ally or an enemy.
The arrival of Speke and Savanna, the wolves, shown dragging Kratos and Atreus over the frozen Lake of Nine in the gameplay above footage, is the final change to traversal that is noteworthy.
God Of War Ragnarok News
The most critical Ragnarok news that we neglected to mention is the director’s change: Eric Williams, a seasoned series member recognized as a designer on the last game, has taken over as God of War 2018’s director after Cory Barlog stepped down. Williams served as the game’s “sounding board and boundary limit testing,” according to Barlog, who claims that Williams was essential in guiding the series on its current path.

A more significant focus on accessibility is another change in the follow-up. Santa Monica Studio has promised that Ragnarok will have over 60 accessibility options, including complete controller customization, automatic movements (sprinting, vaulting, etc.), a navigation assist button, and improved subtitle options.
Ragnarok will conclude the Norse narrative of the series, according to Barlog. Given the popularity of the first game, it came as a bit of a surprise, but Barlog believed that a trilogy would have stretched out the tale too much: “We’re talking a span of close to fifteen years of a single story, and I feel like it’s just too stretched out. It just seems like too much to ask to say that the actual conclusion of that story took that long.
Most recently, we learned that on November 9, Dark Horse would issue an art book for God of War: Ragnarok on the same day as the game. Hundreds of pages of concept art, developer commentary, and other behind-the-scenes information are included in the book.
God Of War Ragnarok Date of Release
The PS5 and PS4 versions of God of War Ragnarok will be available on November 9. As you may recall, the release date for Ragnarok was initially set for 2021 but later moved to 2022. According to Kratos voice actor Christopher Judge, the delay was brought on by his recovery from several surgeries.
According to IGN’s sources, Ragnarok was once scheduled for a September 2022 release; however, the date was never confirmed, and Sony would reveal the actual November 9 release date.
