‘Close Enough’ Season 4 Canceled By HBO Max After 3 Seasons

Close Enough, the adult animated comedy created by Regular Show creator JG Quintel and Cartoon Network Studios, will not be getting a fourth season on HBO Max. The choice was made just over three months after the second season’s release on April 7.

“After three great seasons, Close Enough is coming to an end,” HBO Max said in a statement to Deadline. “We are so proud of the series and grateful to creator JG Quintel and our partners at Cartoon Network Studios, who made this show an instant fan favorite on HBO Max.”

A married couple juggles such regular obstacles as fatherhood, friendship, ham theft, stripper clowns, and picking the perfect day care in Close Enough, a bizarre take on the shift from being in your 20s to your 30s.

The comedy first aired on TBS, where a 2017 television series order was made. Eventually, it moved to HBO Max, where Close Enough made its debut in July 2020. The series quickly gained a cult following and had a perfect rating on Rotten Tomatoes for Season 1.

“It’s true, Close Enough is ending after 3 seasons,” Quintel wrote on Twitter after Deadline’s story ran. “I feel fortunate to have worked on this project with so many talented people. Thank you to everyone that helped bring it to life, and to everyone who watched!”

Close Enough was canceled shortly after HBO Max renewed Ten Year Old Tom, the only adult animated comedy series currently airing on the service. The sci-fi thriller Scavengers Reign and the Clone High remake are two planned animated shows on HBO Max. Uptown Bodega is one of many projects currently in development.

Close Enough Season 3 Synopsis Overview

On April 7, 2022, HBO Max premiered Close Enough’s third and final season.

“A married couple, their five-year-old kid, and their two divorced best friends/roommates all share a small apartment on the eastside of Los Angeles in the bizarre animated comedy CLOSE ENOUGH from JG Quintel, the creator of the Emmy®-winning REGULAR SHOW. They try to mature without getting old as they traverse a turbulent period in their 30s. It’s about balancing your job, family, and chasing your aspirations while avoiding vampires from yacht rock, alien fitness cults, and bison from silent movies. Even though their way of life isn’t perfect, it’s adequate for now.”
