After nearly twenty years of hosting the iconic franchise, Harrison stood down in February after defending a former “Bachelor” contestant who was photographed at an antebellum plantation-themed fraternity formal in 2018. During an interview with former “Bachelorette” Rachel Lindsay on Extra, Harrison made the statements defending Kirkconnell.

In speaking to Lindsay, Harrison showed empathy for Kirkconnell, suggesting that the criticism levelled at her was unjustified because the images were from a past era. Lindsay said it wasn’t a good look for Kirkconnell to go to a party celebrating the antebellum South, which was a time when slavery was common. Harrison replied, “Well, Rachel, is it a good look in 2018? Or is it not a good look in 2021? Because there’s a big difference.”

Lindsay, who is Black, remarked that It’s not a good appearance ever and also asks what would she represent if she attended that party. You can check the tweet below in which Sean Lowe is boycotting The Bachelor after Chris Harrison’s exit.

In the interview, Harrison revealed that he had consulted a racial educator and strategist to help him process his feelings and find closure. In addition, he said that leaving was not the end line. He emphasised that there is much more work to be done.

His departure happened just a day before the premiere of the 17th season of “The Bachelorette,” which aired on Monday.
