Flight cancellations and delays have been reported at both O’Hare and Midway Airports in Chicago as rain and snow move across the area. Lake and McHenry counties have a Snow Storm Warning, while Cook, DuPage, Grundy, and Will counties have a Winter Weather Advisory.

Flights In Chicago Got Cancelled

As a result of a winter storm on Wednesday, more than 1,400 flights were cancelled across the United States. FlightAware reports that as of 1:30 p.m. EST on Wednesday, 1,445 domestic and international flights have been cancelled.

More than 300 flights were cancelled by regional airline SkyWest, which cooperates with major airlines like United, Delta, American, and Alaska Airlines. According to FlightAware, the three airports badly affected were Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport, Denver International Airport, and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. Airports at Chicago O’Hare, Toronto Pearson, and Milwaukee Mitchell were also affected.

There Were 128 Flight Cancellations At Chicago’s Airport

Delta has granted weather waivers for the Upper Midwest and the Rockies/Mountains. United and American Airlines have also given travel waivers this week due to the winter weather. You can see the tweet below in which a snowy storm hits the region of Chicago.

According to CNN, flights were cancelled because of the three-day storm, which brought severe icing, extreme cold, and precipitation to 29 states, including California, Minnesota, and Maine.

The National Weather Service in Minnesota’s Twin Cities has warned that the severe and historic storm will bring widespread accumulating snow, with blowing and drifting snow mainly Wednesday and Thursday, which could result in at least 15 inches of snowfall in the Minneapolis area.
