Black Panther Teaser: Wakanda Forever is a Touching Tribute to Chadwick Boseman

The last in-person San Diego Comic-Con was three years ago, and Marvel Studios pulled out all the stops for its panel in Hall H, offering us a jam-packed overview of Phases Four, Five, and Six of the MCU.

We got a new trailer for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and those in attendance got to see an exclusive sneak peek previews for Ant-Man: Quantumania, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and Secret Invasion, a new crossover series event. The session concluded with the first Black Panther: Wakanda Forever teaser.

When Chadwick Boseman, who played T’Challa in Black Panther, died of colon cancer in August 2020, Wakanda Forever was already in progress. Many others, including director Ryan Coogler and Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige, had no idea that actor Chadwick Boseman was sick.

Even though most of the primary actors are returning, they chose not to recast T’Challa or try to insert him through visual effects. According to Feige, “his portrayal… is iconic and surpasses any iteration of the character in any other medium from Marvel’s past,” in a statement issued in December of 2020.

With a haunting cover of “No Woman, No Cry,” the finished picture is in many ways a tribute to Boseman’s memory. We also get to see the street mural that honors a T’Challa that is no longer with us. When Shuri and her mother Ramonda (Angela Bassett and Letitia Wright) learn of the death of their younger brother T’Challa, they are both devastated.

A single line of dialogue: “I am the queen of the world’s most powerful nation and my entire family is gone. The question is, “Have I not done my duty?”

The She-Hulk: Attorney at Law series has a new trailer as well, according to Marvel. When it comes to She-Behemoth, Attorney at Law, the official synopsis reads, “Jennifer Walters is a 30-year-old attorney who happens to be a green 6-foot-7-inch superpowered hulk.” Benedict Wong will reprise his role as Wong, Mark Ruffalo will play “Smart Hulk,” and Tim Roth will reprise his role as Emil Blonsky/the Abomination from The Incredible Hulk in 2008.

She-strongest Hulk’s competitor, Titania, is played by Jameela Jamil; Walters’ best friend, Ginger Gonzaga; and Amelia, played by Renee Elise Goldsberry.

May’s trailer featured Jennifer, a newly promoted lawyer who had just been asked to head the firm’s superhuman legal department. As a result of a blood transfusion given to her by Bruce Banner, she was given some of the Hulk’s powers. By using anger and fear as a source of power, she learns how to harness them (aka “the baseline of any woman just existing”).

Jessica Gao, the show’s creator, referred to it as “Marvel’s first true half-hour comedy” during the panel discussion. Although Jessica is one of the few superheroes who doesn’t actually want to be one, the show has a certain comedy vibe to it. Jessica is shown sleeping blissfully while a gigantic green hand appears in the background.

She-Hulk is awakened by a loud horn, which causes her to transform into Smart Hulk. Who says a sense of humor cannot be incorporated into scientific research? It’s time for the Hulk/She-Hulk training video.”

‘You’re about to embark on a multi-year odyssey,’ “She is told by Smart-Hulk. “Spandex is your best friend,” says the first lesson. She-Hulk is an expert at all she does. At first, he refuses, but when She-Hulk insists that she can go back to being a lawyer if she wants, he breaks the fourth wall, saying, “He doesn’t really mean it.” The law is her preference.

The fact that “more and more quirky superhumans are crawling out of the woodwork,”

as her boss Holden Holloway puts it, makes her the ideal candidate to lead the division of superhuman law. Blonsky/Abomination is her first customer, and she is greeted with a sly “Namaste.” Holloway doesn’t seem to mind that Blonsky attempted to assassinate his cousin Bruce, despite the fact that this is clearly a conflict of interest.

Moreover, it raises Jennifer’s public profile. Suddenly, She-superhero Hulk’s career takes off when Titania bursts into the office looking for a fight. In his customary fashion, Wong emerges via a gateway to issue a dire warning about a terrible danger to the cosmos.

Blonsky is shown in his cell transforming into an Abomination. Then, at the very end, a strange figure leaps into the picture and takes a combat position. Fans believe it’s Daredevil, but there’s no way to tell for sure without seeing him in action.

The Fifth Phase And Up

Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s “Multiverse Saga” will conclude with She-Hulk and Wakanda Forever (encompassing Phases Four, Five, and Six). Phase Five will begin with the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in February 2017, 2023.

The Marvel panel also featured an exclusive sneak peek at the movie (not yet released online). After learning that his daughter, Cassie, had been detained, Scott Lang begins reading from his memoir, appropriately titled “Look Out for the Little Guy.”

Her relationship with the Van Dynes appears to be going well. When a mystery equipment malfunctions, the group is suddenly thrown into the quantum realm. The wicked Kang, initially revealed in Loki’s finale, makes a brief appearance, but the real surprise is MODOK’s presence.

James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 will also be released on May 5, 2023. “According to the logline,” “Despite his grief, Peter Quill must assemble his team in order to preserve both the universe and one of their own: Gamora. One that, should it fail, could spell the end for the Guardians as we know them.

It was shown in the Comic-Con preview clip that Gamora has joined the Ravagers and does not recall Peter. Fans got their first glance at Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock, who wields the Soul Gem’s power, and it appears that we’ll discover more about Rocket’s past on the planet Halfworld.

The High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji), a scientist from Earth who messed with chaos magic, will also appear as a villain in the film. As a member of the MCU, he is the one who gave Wanda and Quicksilver their powers.Samual L. Jackson’s Nick Fury appears in an episode of Marvel’s Secret Invasion, a six-part crossover event series about a group of shape-shifting Skrulls who have been infiltrating Earth since its inception in 2012.

To meet Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) on Earth, Fury exited a spaceship and appeared to be in a state of undress. To stop the Skrull invasion, Fury will work with his erstwhile Skrull ally Talos (Ben Mendelsohn). New footage for The Marvels, which is on July 28, 2023, was noticeably absent from the panel at Comic-Con, which was held in San Diego, California. Echo S2 and Loki S2 will be available next summer, too.

Blade, starring Mahershala Ali in Wesley Snipes’ vampire-hunting shoes, and WandaVision offshoot Agatha, which centers on Wanda’s witchy neighbor, will close out 2023 on November 3 and December, respectively. Ironheart, Blade, and WandaVision spinoff Agatha will all be released in the fall of 2023.

As for 2024, Anthony Mackie will star in the feature film Captain America: New World Order, slated for a May 3 release, having made his peace with taking up Steve Rogers’ shield at the conclusion of The Falcon and the Winter Solder. Also that spring, Charlie Cox is coming back as Matt Murdock in Daredevil: Born Again.

This was not unexpected, since the character briefly appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home, while Vincent D’Onofio’s Kingpin briefly appeared in Hawkeye. (The comic’s storyline depicts Daredevil’s defeat at the hands of Kingpin.) But it’s still great to see it officially confirmed.

Phase Five will wrap up on July 26, 2024, with the release of Thunderbolts., centering on a team of villains, possibly led by Baron Zemo (Daniel Brühl), introduced in Captain America: Civil War.  As for Phase Six, it’s mostly still a twinkle in Feige’s eye, but it will kick off with a reboot of Fantastic Four (tentatively slated for November 8, 2024), and will wrap up with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty on May 2, 2025, and Avengers: Secret Wars on November 7, 2025.
