In The Midst Of Involuntary Manslaughter Charges, Alec Baldwin Receives Backlash For An Instagram Post
Shortly after being charged with involuntary manslaughter, Alec Baldwin posted a photo to Instagram, which has since been widely criticized. Several days after the announcement that Baldwin would be facing two counts of involuntary manslaughter for the October 2021 accidental death of Halyna Hutchins, the picture was posted online. One of the actor’s young sons was pictured sitting on the floor, his hands on his mother Hilaria’s shoulders.
“Ah, the ‘give me a rub on the back’ tactic…” Baldwin wrote the photo’s inscription. A lot of his followers were confused and angry about the post. Critics have said things like, “Imagine being indicted for involuntary manslaughter and your first post after the announcement includes a picture of your attention-seeking wife, posed with your young son, and captioned with a sexually suggestive innuendo.”

One more penned, “I doubt I would share photos of my family online if I had recently killed a parent by accident. Then why make a sexual remark under those circumstances? It doesn’t look good at all. Obtain some sense of modesty.” To complete his original caption, Baldwin subsequently wrote, “Potato chips to follow.” He elaborated on the change in the comments: “The text was modified by me. Because, well, you know, there’s a lot of that kind of Reddit garbage online.”
Production of Baldwin’s film Rust was halted in October 2021 after cinematographer Hutchins was shot and killed by a prop gun. Baldwin’s attorney, Luke Nikas, issued the following statement after the charges were unveiled on Thursday: “An awful miscarriage of justice has occurred with this verdict, which travesties the memory of Halyna Hutchins’s tragic death. Mr. Baldwin had no reason to think the bullet was real, or that there were any on the film set.
He put his trust in the expertise of his coworkers, who assured him that the gun was empty. We’ll defend ourselves against these false accusations.” A lawyer for the Rust production confirmed on Friday that Baldwin will continue filming the movie in the lead role despite the charges. The original plan called for production to pick back up this month.
Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, Rust’s armorer, will also face charges of involuntary manslaughter, while David Halls, the film’s assistant director, pleaded guilty to negligent use of a deadly weapon. Keep up with the times by reading the latest headlines on Talkxbox.
