Fallout: New Vegas will be available later this year, and as with any high profile game in a successful franchise, details are rolling out slowly. If you haven’t been keeping pace with all news concerning Fallout: New Vegas, will let TX get you up to speed. For starters the game is being developed by Obsidian Entertainment, instead of Bethseda Softworks. That’s not the only significant change in store for the follow-up to Fallout 3. The game will place you in the role of courier who gets a bullet to the dome while trying to deliver some info and thus will begin you adventure.
Fallout: New Vegas will also introduce a “hardcore” game option, which will allow seasoned Fallout vets to skip tutorials, and offer a more challenging experience. In hardcore mode you will have to monitor your hunger, hydration levels, always have to visit a doctor to take care of serious injuries, and Stimpacks will only heal you over time. You will also have a limitation on how much ammo you can carry – as weight will now be applied to bullets.
Aside from a more advanced difficulty setting, Obsidian is bringing in some new gameplay tweaks as well. Now when you get a companion that fights along side you, you won’t have the basic options of just telling them to stay close, use guns, or melee. Obsidian is introducing a new mechanic dubbed the ‘Companion Wheel’ in which you can direct your companion in the heat of battle. VATs has also been enhanced to give players the option to use melee attacks out of the interface.
And what would a new Fallout game be without some nifty new weapons? If you were the type of gamer that enjoyed the Fatboy launcher and its mini-nukes, then you’re going to love the addition of the grenade machine gun.
Lastly New Vegas will feature a more robust morality system than its predecessor, depending on the actions you take, certain groups will either praise, fear, or want to kill you.
Sounds like Obsidian has a full plate of post-apocalyptic goodness ready to serve up when New Vegas hits consoles later this year. Until then we’ll just have to hurry up and wait for it.
