Cosmo X-Fighting Stick

Arcade games rock, plain and simple. I’m also a pretty big fan of fighting games, which makes me wonder even more how come I’ve never owned an arcade stick before, so I was pretty ecstatic to get the Cosmo X-Fighting Stick from the nice folks at Lik-Sang, and even more overjoyed when I found out how great it is. If this looks familiar to you, it’s because this is basically a tweaked version of the Sega Virtua Stick, as it’s been built out of it, so fans of that classic stick would instantly adore this one. The X-Fighting Stick comes in a snazzy green box, and I was surprised how compact this stick was, compared to the box’s size.

At first, I had some trouble getting used to the button layout, but soon after, it felt as natural as an Xbox controller. The joystick and buttons also feel like a legitimate arcade cabinet’s and all the buttons are there, expect Back, but really, how often do you use Back? To make up for a lack of a Back button, some more important buttons have been added on the top of the stick; select, turbo, clear and slow. Granted you probably won’t use most of those buttons, but it’s nice to know that they’re there. One odd thing I noticed was that the buttons were colored oddly, as all of them, including the joystick are green, except A which is blue, and B which is pink, why not color coordinate, or at least make black and white their respective colors? It’s not something wrong with it, as you won’t be looking at your controller, it’s just something that I laughed about, because it seems pretty nonsensical. The joystick works superbly with 2D fighters such as Guilty Gear X2 #Reload and Marvel vs. Capcom 2, and surprisingly well with 3D fighters such as Mortal Kombat: Deception and Dead or Alive Ultimate, and I was even able to play Metal Slug 3 just like I had in the arcade.

Overall, this arcade stick has a nice compact feel, which is complimented by an aesthetically pleasing and ergonomic design. Its construction is sturdy and the product feels strong, while also having a compact and lightweight feel. The cord is also around the same length as a controller, so you can play easily from your couch. The Cosmo X-Fighting Stick is easy to use and has a great button layout, and the fact that it was manufactured out of the Sega Virtua Stick means that you know you have a great stick on your hands, now if only Sega would give Xbox owners a Virtua Fighter game of our own...
