XGA Box

There are times when you just don’t want to play Xbox on the TV. Maybe people are sleeping, and you can’t connect headphones to it. Maybe you are having a LAN party, and need an extra TV, sans the amount of room a TV takes. Or maybe you just want a high quality, cheap way to play Xbox on something you already have. If you are reading this right now, you already have already taken the first step in finding a new way to play Xbox. The second is buying the XGA Box from Lik-Sang.com.

Upon opening the XGA Box, I was immediately stricken by how much stuff there was. There were 2 cables, and a little device with a ton of plugs. And when I say a ton, I mean a ton. This baby has 9 different plugs, and a set of tuning switches that I never had to mess with. To make the first impression scarier to a wiring noob like myself, the manual was no help either really. So I plugged stuff into what seemed like the right places. And, thankfully, it worked perfectly. The only part of getting it to work that was an issue was when I plugged the regular monitor VGA cable into the wrong VGA slot, which made the entire thing do nothing. After that I found a two way VGA cable with VGA adaptors on both sides, so I plugged that in, plugged the Xbox cables into the right colored sections, plugged the room’s speakers into the correct colored plugs, and switched on the Xbox… and the opening Halo 2 chant/guitar solo came on throughout the room (in surround sound, without my needing to mess with the options no less), and the picture was displayed clearly, and on my monitor.

After that, there was nothing else to do. To switch the monitor to my computer, a simple slider gets moved between PC and XGA. That’s it. It just works, no black magic, no struggling to get the picture to look right, and no changing picture options in the Dashboard. It just works. And that’s why I am able to suggest to anyone looking for a way to get an extra TV for LAN games, or just to play games, to seriously consider this fantastic device. Sure, you could spend 800$ on a TV that can’t be hauled around easily. But then again, you can spend 50$ for an adaptor that will let you play Xbox anywhere you have access to a computer monitor. If that’s not money well spent, I don’t know what is.
