Biggest News Article: 1080p Support Announced
“MS announced that the Xbox 360 will support 1080p for games and movies after a fall software update. Additionally, MS demonstrated XNA to Japanese colleges as the worldwide release date of August 30th slowly nears.” – Kisan Parikh

This should take some of the wind out of Sony’s sails for the Playstation 3. I have a Samsung television that supports 1080p, so this announcement is music to my ears. Microsoft only mandates 720p though – it will be interesting how many 360 games in the future use full support of 1080p. The big guns such as Halo 3, Halo Wars, Fable 2, and Project Gotham Racing 4 should all take full advantage of this 1080p support in the future.

Xbox Live Game of the Month: Xbox Live Vision
“Xbox Live Vision is going to open up new avenues for developers to use for Xbox Live. Rainbow Six: Las Vegas and World Series of Poker: Tournament of Champions both will provide photomapping of players the chance to map their face onto their characters. As of right now, not too many games support the camera, but I am crossing my fingers more will announce Xbox Live Vision features.” – Dakota Grabowski

Xbox Live Vision

After using the Xbox Live Vision camera for over a month and a half now, it’s apparent that parents need to regulate their children’s use of Xbox Live. Too many butt cheeks, hairy nipples, middle fingers, and other profane pictures currently clog up the service. One thing remains though, Xbox Live Vision will become a feature that developers will continue to use and Xbox Live will benefit from its service. Custom gamerpics are one of the most wanted features on Xbox Live and it has been delivered in quality fashion.

Xbox 360 Game of the Month: LEGO Star Wars II
“I am LEGO and I must scream! It would suck to be a LEGO person. Without working mandibles the most they can do is grit their teeth (do they even have teeth?) and make strange noises. In the long run though, the lack of voice acting adds to the charm of the game. Hearing the original actor’s voices emanating from tiny plastic figures would be a bit surreal. Luckily the game’s sound effects and musical score fill in the void left by the voiceless LEGOs. The timeless John Williams composed tracks are as much at home in the game as they were in the movies.” – Chris Oder

LEGO Star Wars II is a quirky game that I can imagine anyone will be able to enjoy. What makes me happy is that it conveys all this charm and still represents the Star Wars franchise well enough to please hardcore fans. Now, if they take the Knights of the Old Republic series and partner it up with LEGO, I will be even more engulfed in happiness.

User of the Month: Spinoff90
Last month we revealed our ambition to have the ‘User of the Month’ added to the awards portion. We hand out this award to those members that have earned it through the forum and other contributions to the site. This month’s winner is Spinoff90, a member who has been with TalkXbox since January of 2004. His GamerScore is 35,320 on Xbox Live and seeks competition regularly for anyone that feels up to the challenge. The gamertag isn’t too much a surprise – you can find him on Xbox Live through Spinoff90.

To make every member aware, users of the month will be entered into a contest for a prize package we will be giving to the ‘User of the Year.' The prize package will be revealed in a few short weeks on the forums, so make sure to keep checking back with us to find out the full details on the package.
