With every live clip or trailer I see of Modern Warfare 2, I grow more and more impressed with the game. By todays standards first person shooters are a dime a dozen. For every Halo 3: ODST, there are games like Legendary. What Infinity Ward has managed to do with the Modern Warfare franchise, is a feat that deserves kudos.

&nbsp

Breaking away from World War 2, and moving Call of Duty into modern times (no pun intended) has been a successful formula. What’s impressed me the most, isn’t just that the game is a solid FPS experience, it has been the narrative. Top notch stuff, which is expanded more in this brand new trailer:

&nbsp

Left 4 Dead 2 is hitting the 360 next month, so what better a time to push pre-orders? In order to give *ahem* consumers more of an incentive to purchase the game, Valve is offering up some goodies.

&nbsp

First off, if you reserve the game you’ll get access to the demo before everyone else will get to play it on October 27. But if that’s not enough to get you to drop a couple bucks at your local game store, there’s another bonus, an American themed baseball bat. No details have emerged on what this exactly is, or how it will operate. But I’m going to assume that the baseball bat would be made available and exclusively to you in-game, well at least until you get chomped on by some Cajun zombies and one of your teammates picks it up.

When the Final Fantasy XIII TGS trailer was revealed last week, you may have noticed run into a problem understanding exactly what was happening, due to the game being in Japanese.

&nbsp

The trailer has now been released in English and might make a little bit more sense when watching this time around. Check it out:

The clock is winding down until the release of Modern Warfare 2, and my social life becomes extinct, again. The hype machine is rolling, the energy drinks are flowing, and we now have a http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-2/achievements/>full blown achievement list for the game!

&nbsp

The Modern Warfare 2 details don’t stop there, there’s also a fresh trailer that will be appearing during Sunday Night Football (Chargers vs. Steelers) for all the world to see.

Out of the Frying Pan

Last week at the TGS it was revealed that Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition would be making its way over to the PS3, with expanded control options to use with Sony’s upcoming motion control, and extra content which would let you play as Jill Valentine.

&nbsp

Capcom hasn’t ruled out releasing the additional content on the Xbox 360 as Dengeki Online reports that they plan to release it for the 360, possibly as DLC. The report says that the content would make it’s way on the Xbox 360 via “different format” than on the PS3. Common sense suggest that DLC is the logical different format. The extra content will come in the form of a mission that takes place three years prior to the event in Resident Evil 5, where Jill and Chris got their asses handed to them by Wesker when they apprehended him at the Spencer mansion. No other word on the additional bonus content, but producer Jun Takeuchi says, “It’s a brand-new release, so we’re going to release it with more content than that.”

You just knew that the pretty hype machine was going to start rolling on Modern Warfare 2. We’re two months away from the games release and Infinity Ward and Activision are starting to get things moving by way of marketing. Just like Halo 3 before it, starting this month, CoD: Modern Warfare 2 will be getting an honorary limited edition beverage, in the form of a Monster Energy drink. You won’t be able to buy these MW 2 themed drinks one at a time, Monster is offering them in a six pack.

&nbsp

Since exclusivity is all the rage these days, Sams Club is the only place that you will be able to pick up a MW 2 six pack. But the incentive to run out and get one is quite promising, for starters everyone who buys a MW2 themed Monster Energy six pack, will be given access to to the official Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Combat Training Experience. The CoD: MW 2 Combat Training Experience is an online event hosted by Infinity Ward that will give players an in-depth look at the game before it is released.

&nbsp

In addition to that little nugget, for every six pack you purchase, you will be entered in a drawing to win some prizes. Which include but aren’t limited to: a copy of MW 2 and codes for the first planned Map Pack, which is listed for release in Spring of 2010.

Many among us have heard stories of the allied pilots’ heroic exploits during the Second World War as they mounted aerial offensives against the German Luftwaffe. Many WWII flight action games have appeared throughout the years and attempted to allow ‘would be’ pilots the chance to experience this era of human history. Heroes Over Europe is the latest in this long line of WWII era flight action titles and, regrettably, doesn’t quite measure up to other games in the genre.

Heroes Over Europe errs on the side of more arcade flight action rather than a traditional flight sim. There are two different control setups to cater to different playing styles. The professional setup is a traditional twin stick control scheme for flight sim purists while the other “arcade” setup is much more accessible for flight action newcomers and seems to be more fitting for the game’s action oriented gameplay.

A healthy array of WWII era fighters and fighter/bombers are included in the game’s roster of allied and Luftwaffe planes including the workhorse P-51D Mustang, incredibly agile de Havilland Mosquito and the heavily armed, torpedo deploying Fairey Swordfish.
With so many planes, dogfighting is, unsurprisingly, a large focus in Heroes Over Europe. There’s something special about lining up a fleeing FW 190 in your targeting reticule and unleashing a rain of machinegun fire until they go down in flames. To aid in such pursuits, as you’re lining up your target, a small red dot will be displayed near their craft, to help lead your shot.

Lending itself well to the more arcade centric nature of the game is the “Ace Kill” feature, which slows down time for a brief moment and zooms in on an enemy plane. To activate the feature, you’ll need to keep a rival fighter in your sights long enough for a gauge around your reticule to fill. Once it is half full, the Ace Kill mode is ready to be activated. Once zoomed in, several weak points on the plane will be highlighted in yellow, ranging from the engine(s), ammo boxes along the wings and even the pilot himself. Basic enemy fighters such as the Me-109 go down in one precise shot to any of the highlighted areas while bombers and other large aircraft can take more punishment. If you allow the gauge to completely fill, you’ll be able to chain together ace kills as the gauge slowly depletes.

The campaign does a decent job of keeping you compelled to press on with an impressive amount of variety in your objectives. For instance, in one mission, you’ll find yourself escorting a squadron of B-17 bombers and protecting them from threats from both outside their formation and within. In the next, you’ll be dive bombing German radar towers and then have to get the heck out of dodge by flying low to the ground through the streets of Berlin as flak explodes overhead and enemy fighters rain down 20mm shells in a desperate attempt to shoot you down.

Things become a bit hectic during most of the campaign’s 14 missions. You’ll have to grow accustomed to multitasking during missions because there are moments when you’ll have two or three critical mission objectives, all needing your attention at once. At that point, you’ll have to find a way to be in two places at once. Frustration quickly sets in during these instances and makes missions seem more tedious than entertaining.

Some design oddities immediately stand out and take away from the experience. First of all, there’s no cockpit view, which limits the sense of immersion. Collision detection is a bit off as well; most commonly demonstrated by enemy fighters that happen to fly into your path. When the two planes collide, they will sometimes stick together and spiral out of control toward the ground, all the while slowly damaging each other in the process. Ramming, while a very unwise tactic seems to be encouraged here, as one of the achievements involves destroying three bombers by flying directly into them and while this doesn’t usually result in instant death, it just doesn’t make sense as a viable offensive option.

Adding an extra layer of challenge to the campaign, there are a few boss fights thrown in for good measure. I’m sure a few of you out there are thinking, “Well, this could work. They’re bound to be the most exciting battles in the game, right?” Sadly, these battles don’t pan out nearly as well as expected. The AI has a few quirks that create less than thrilling battles. These “Ace pilots” all employ the same “fly directly at you, guns blazing, pass and repeat” tactics with very little deviation. It’s also a bit of a buzzkill that each one of the bosses can be taken down in one shot with the Ace Kill feature mentioned before. Sure, it’s much more difficult to keep your reticule trained on them than any of the other enemy pilots, but the fact remains that the battles can literally be won in a matter of seconds.

The multiplayer component is likely the weakest aspect of the game. While there is support for up to 16 players, which makes for some pretty exciting battles, the paltry three game modes (Dogfight, Team Dogfight and Survival) and four maps are bound to pretty quickly become old. With better multiplayer options out there, such as Ace Combat 6, it’s hard to imagine this game having any legs and just makes the multiplayer component seem like an afterthought.

The graphics engine powering Heroes Over Europe doesn’t impress much either. Plane models are well detailed and the European battlefields you’ll wage war over, ranging from rolling plains to the streets of London ravaged by German bombing runs are all recreated with an impressive sense of scale but nothing really stands out. Everything is only as detailed as it needs to be and the finer details are lost in a sea of textures that, while fine from a proper distance look pretty darn muddy up close. This is highlighted in the very first mission where you take off from the ground, making a disappointing first impression. It doesn’t help matters that the framerate occasionally drops at odd times and that there are sporadic pop in issues.

In comparison to other flight action titles, Heroes Over Europe just doesn’t measure up. What it does, it does only decently and never truly stands out. The campaign is entertaining but it’s too short to grab your attention for long and doesn’t ratchet up the intensity to the level I’d expect, despite its variety. The frustrating tendency to pile on the objectives far faster than you can complete them and a difficulty curve that spikes at odd points make for an experience that’s more frustrating than it is rewarding. Add in the weak multiplayer component and you have a game that seems like it could have been so much better, had some of these glaring flaws been addressed.

Times have been tough for many businesses during the recession the United States is currently in. While a lot of financial pundits and political figures keep saying that things can’t get any worse, there doesn’t seem to be any relief in site for anyone. Earlier this week Game Crazy announced that they would be shutting down 200 stores in October, as in this month. As you may have guessed the economic environment had a lot to do with shutting some of the stores down.

&nbsp

The official word from Game Crazy corporate is, “Movie Gallery, Inc. is currently operating in an unprecedented consumer/retail environment. In order for us to continue to best serve our millions of customers across North America we’re addressing underperforming stores and ensuring that there is sufficient [return on investment] associated with each of these stores going forward. The vast majority of our stores will be unaffected by these efforts.”

&nbsp

In order to make sure they aren’t losing too much money on the deal, all closing stores will begin liquidating their stock. Starting this weekend if you walk into a closing store you will get 30% off everything in the store. This will last all the way up until the 11th. It gets even better than that, starting on the 12th of October, if your shopping for some leftovergames you’ll get 50% off. That last until the 19th of October. After that, up until the end of the month when the store closes, whatever is left in the store will carry an 80% discount.

&nbsp

While that sounds fine and well, it won’t mean squat unless you actually know what Game Crazy’s are closing. Luckily Joystiq has been compiling a list, generated with the help of its readers on what stores are closing.

Ubisoft may or may not have heard the grumblings that revolved around how repetitive Assassins Creed was. That’s why with the sequel they are trying to spice things up a bit, in order to break thing up. So far we know that there will be new weapons, new ways to kill, new gadgets like the Da Vinci glider, and the ability to swim/hide under water . But one thing that just slipped through the cracks, is that Ezio will engage in sexual activities with some of the female locale in the game.

&nbsp

During a Q&A session with fans on VG247, Assassins Creed 2 director Benoit Lambert, fielded some questions about what fans could expect in the game. One fan asked a pretty blunt question: “Is there any sex in the game?” Benoits reply was, “Ezio is a womaniser. There’s a bit of sex. I can’t say more.”

&nbsp

Hmm… I wonder how they are going to handle this. Will it be in a tasteful cutscene? Button mashing mini-game? Or both, I’m just joking about the mini-game, but it will be interesting to see how they handle pixelated copulation.

We’ve been hearing that EA was planning on putting out a sequel to Dead Space and turn last years successful game into a franchise. If you followed the EA release trends, you’d have bet that Dead Space 2 would be making its way to consoles sometime this year, or holiday season. If you had made that bet you’d be wrong as the game isn’t even going into production until a couple months from now.

&nbsp

The report comes from a job posting submitted by EA senior recruiter Jeff Ballard on a job networking website. The listing is for a Lead Designer for “the Dead Space franchise,” and states: “”The game is in the later stages of pre-production, ready for production in the next few months, with many of the navigational and combat mechanics in place.”

&nbsp

Now that we have that out of the way, I’d just like to know exactly what the sequel will entail. The ending of Dead Space was left a little open, but not really. I’m not going to spoil it for people who didn’t play, or complete the first game. I’m just curious if it’s going to be Isaac the Rambo-esque engineer, or somebody else? We’ll keep you posted, when we find out more information.

Earlier today (as in right below this) I posted the teaser trailer for Super Street Fighter. While that was all fine and good, there was no gameplay footage> Well where there is a will there is a way. Or in this case: where there is a video camera and an internet connection, there is a way. Not even 24 hours after the official trailer from Capcom, there is some footage of the game in action.

&nbsp

What’s more exciting than just seeing the game in action is the reveal of a new character named Juri, who is fighting T. Hawk. The word on Juri, lifted right from YouTube, is she is Korean, uses TKD, and works for Seth. And while the brief footage is not much, it is at least something.

&nbsp

So the news of Super Street Fighter IV, and its eight new characters isn’t enough to tickle your fancy? How about a trailer then? Before you get your hopes up, let me just warn you. The trailer for the game is pretty much exactly the same as the trailer for regular old Street Figher IV.

&nbsp

Now before we start getting a bunch of wise ass comments, yes I know there are noticeable differences. Strikingly in the change of art style from ink streaks, to white noise/static streaks. But I’m talking about the overall presentation, Ken vs. Ryu, and lack of gameplay. Don’t just take my word for it, see for yourself:

&nbsp

Not too long ago Gameloft revealed that they would be releasing an EarthWorm Jim remake for Xbox Live Arcade. Aside from the fact that the game ha a one-month exclusivity period with XBLA, there wasn’t much in the realm of details. Well GamerBytes sat down got the skinny from a Gameloft representative who revealed that EarthWorm Jim HD wasn’t going to be the same old game updated with HD graphics.

&nbsp

For starters the game will be based on the Sega Genesis version of the game, it is also being worked on from the ground up for now-gen consoles, all based on the original EarthWorm Jim coding. There will be different difficulty settings, and a level from the Sega Cd and PC versions of the original game dubbed “Big Bruty”. Aside from leaderboard stats, GamerBytes says that there will be “some surprises, which will be revealed later”.

&nbsp

One thing GamerBytes is not doing, is messing with the games original music score. EarthWorm Jim HD will be available later this year.

Infinity Ward must know that regardless of what they do, CoD: Modern Warfare 2 is going to be one of the top selling games of the year. Sure there are a ridiculous amount of peripherals from MadCatz, a limited edition Xbox 360 system, and a whole lot more marketing coming for the game. But what there will not be is a demo for the game, before it is released.

&nbsp

Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling let the world know via Twitter, stating: “No plan for a Demo before launch.” The reason behind the snub is because the development team wants to spend as much time as they can to fine tune the final product. There are some internet ramblingsrumblings that the sales of CoD 4: Modern Warfare benefitted from having a demo available.

&nbsp

But I honestly don’t think that it’s going to make that much of a difference. I’d be willing to bet that the game is probably going to sell in the multimillions when it is released on November 10 at midnight. Anyone else that thinks otherwise is just stirring up controversy, a fool, or both. There I said it.

When Assassins Creed 2 was first revealed, Activision didn’t give ups much motive for a guy dressed up in Altair’s garb, jumping from rooftop to rooftop and killing fat noblemen. The one thing the original Assassins Creed had going for it was a compelling story line. Hell, that’s one of the only reasons that I played the original game to completion. So can the sequel keep the already established storyline going strong?

&nbsp

You’ll just have to watch this trailer and make up your own mind.

&nbsp

Here we are, still counting the down the days until Mass Effect 2 is released. BioWare is doing quite a fine job of keeping us on our toes, by releasing just enough info on the game to get us hooked, but not saturated with Commander Sheppard and his merry band of trigger happy soldiers. The latest being the new squad mate Subject Zero.

&nbsp

Sure she looks and talks like Tank Girl, but she’s a self professed “All powerful bitch,” who looks like she backs up the trash she’s talking, by kicking @$%! and taking names. She also appears to have a very active libido, so I’m sure there are going to be some questionable in-game intercourse scenes to get some worked up into a frenzy. Check out her introduction video right here. And pay attention that that little bit about the Dragon Armor at the end of the video. What’s up with that?

You know what they say: If it sells, then you should definitely expect a sequel. I actually just made that up, but it’s a standard economic practice. Capcom is adhering to that make beleive rule by releasing Super Street Fighter IV early next year.

&nbsp

There had been a lot of recent rumors saying that Capcom was planning on doing a sequel of sorts to Street Fighter IV, many guessed that it would be an extra edition of the game with some new characters and tweaks, and it appears that they were right. The game will feature eight brand new characters to play with right from the start, so don’t worry about any completion unlocking. So far T. Hawk and Dee Jay have been confirmed, with the rest being super top secret.

&nbsp

New characters aren’t the only new features that Super Street Fighter IV will have, producer Yoshinori Ono says, that Capcom has decided to make changes to every character based on feedback from players and the development team. There will also be an improved online experience.

&nbsp

If you’re hoping for this to be available in the form of DLC, you’re going to be disappointed. The bad news is Super Street Fighter IV is going to be another standalone addition to the series, the good news is that the game won’t retail for full price.

&nbsp

Super Street Fighter IV will be available sometime in the Spring of 2010.

There was a lot of noise being made about the TGS Final Fantasy XIII trailer. Since it was first revealed at the Tokyo Games Show, the word of mouth on how epic the trailer was, made all the internet rounds. Now the trailer has been revealed, fair warning though, if you cannot speak Japanese you will have no clue what they are saying, or what’s going on. All you really need to know is that it is FF XIII and it lives up to the franchise standards set by Square Enix. Emo looking characters that are on a mission to find themselves and save the world? Check. Badass summons that have ultra-cool animations? Check. A bad buy who seems to have an infinite army ready to kick your you-know-what? Check.

&nbsp

But enough with the banter! Here’s the trailer for your viewing pleasure:

&nbsp

Mark Ecko has long been regarded in the fashion world as one of the first successful major players in the *ahem*

“hip hop” inspired clothing line. Ecko who has always been a fan of graffiti, turned his love for the art form into an empire. After his success in the clothing world, he moved on to video games, with the moderately successful Marc Ecko’s Getting Up. After that? He moved back to apparel, but now instead of graffiti inspired clothing, he’s doing videogame inspired clothing!

Mark Ecko has unveiled his new clothing line that isn’t just inspired by Halo it pretty much is Halo 3: ODST marketed gear. So you get your basic t-shirt, dubbed “Master Stalker” with a picture of Master Chief. Then you get a jacket covered with The Rookies likeness. The star of the bunch has to be the Master Chief Halo Hoodie. While it doesn’t included a zip over your head hoodie that makes you it look like a $10 Master Chief Halloween costume, purchased at Walmart. It does have a patch on the side that says, “NOOBS GET PWN3D”. Yes that is in all caps, and yes I am serious about what the patch says. If you’re looking to cop one of the hoodies, to help you let noobs, know what time it is; you’re going to be spending $88.

Earlier this week at the Tokyo Games Show, Hideo Kojima spoke on a panel in regards to the future possibilities of developing for Project Natal. The Metal Gear mastermind sat down with a few other industry heavyweights and outlined their professional interest in the new tech. After the panel Kotaku caught up with Kojima who elaborated on the direction he would like to take with Project Natal.

&nbsp

“I’m not interested in making Natal games for casual users, but I’m interested in making games that hardcore users always wanted to play,” he said. “I want to make to a core game experience on Natal
