Rumor: BioShock 2 Is A Sprequel?
Added 12/30/2008 by Artie Augustyn
An undisclosed source close to the development of BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams, is claiming that BioShock 2 will not only be a prequel to BioShock, but a sequel as well. They also believe that if you took two different screenshots from BioShock 2, they would look like they came from two different games.
No confirmation if this is true or not, but the idea of BioShock pulling a Godfather Part 2 doesn’t seem completely out of this world. Imagine you’re working in Fontaine’s Crew as the city of Rapture falls, and on the other half you’re topside, seeing what effects Rapture has to the rest of the world. If this is true, I don’t really see how they can include the Big Daddies, Little Sisters, or the whole upgrading system within the game. Since most of BioShock consisted of gathering ADAM from the Little Sisters, and that wouldn’t really be a factor this time around. Maybe they’ll figure something out. Before this rumor came out, I was pretty sure Sea of Dreams would be a sequel, seeing as how the trailer depicates a girl who looks around nine years old. This very well could be a grown up little sister.
A lot of people have been saying that BioShock “shouldn’t have a sequel.” I tend to agree with that philosophy, but at the same time Godfather Part 2 was a pretty stellar continuation of a movie that seemed like it could’ve ended with the first. Although I found myself enjoying Robert De Niro’s parts of the movies a lot more than Al Pacino’s. Maybe Sea of Dreams will follow a similar pattern? BioShock 2 is supposed to be out within Take Two’s 2009 fiscal year, which ends October 31st 2009, so we’re bound to hear some information soon.
