Call of Duty: World at War Online Beta Coming October

Activision and Treyarch announced today that gamers eagerly waiting for the next chapter in the Call of Duty franchise will be able to get their hands on the multiplayer portion a month ahead of time through an online beta. Prospective participants can register here, but if you want to be assured entry  a pre-order at GameStop is required. In related news, Activision also announced the official release date for the final product, November 11.

Now before you begin priding yourself on becoming a beta participant that will help make the multiplayer experience of World at War the finest possible, take a look at the time between the beta's, and game's release. It's not much, so little in fact that  Treyarch probably won't be harvesting any data to enact changes on the final game. Therefore, the beta's purpose is likely more about promotion than actual testing, but isn't that what online betas have been molding into these past few years?
