Future of Video Games 2005, a new report from Kagan Research, provides a look at the impact of the next generation consoles on the industry and assessments of market growth. This along with revenue projections for hardware and software sales from '05- '10 makes this report very insightful. According to this report, the total industry sales will reach 16 billion dollars in '07, and this is a 61% increase from 2004 sales. Software sales in the United States will increase and reach $8 billion by 2008. This is a 30% increase from 2004. One startling number is that by 2010, 54 million U.S. households will own at least one console. Most of these will have both a standard and portable console.
"We believe Sony PS3 will be the strongest seller of next-generation videogame consoles. However, Microsoft's Xbox 360 will narrow the gap with Sony to come within 28% of the PS3 installed base -- selling almost twice as many next-gen consoles as Nintendo Revolution by 2010." --Kagan analyst Irina Mulvey,
