Survival makes for strange bedfellows in Atari

Atari has announced details for its upcoming adventure game, Indigo Prophecy. Quantic Dream will be developing the title, and it’s release is slated for this fall. Further details can be found at the official website of the game, www.indigoprophecy.com .

Gamers will see the future of middleware at the 2005 Game Developer Conference when Havok reveals it’s product, Havok Complete 3. GDC 2005 will take place in San Francisco at the Moscone West Convention Center from March 7

According to online retailers such as EBgames and Gamestop, MVP Baseball 2005 is shipping a week early, up to February 22nd rather than the previous date of March 1st. Such a move in release date could be to get a head start on the competition, MLB 2K5.

EA representatives were not available for comment as of press.

Electronic Arts has confirmed the final roster for their upcoming title, Fight Night Round 2. The roster boasts an impressive selection of 36 popular fighters with a few hidden ones thrown in. The list of fighters is below.

Fight Night Round 2 is set to release at the end of this month.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and THQ have announced that Constantine, the game based on the upcoming Warners Bros. Pictures release, has shipped.

"The dark and intense feel of the Constantine film provides a perfect backdrop for the action-packed game," said Jason Hall, Senior Vice President of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. "This game allows players to truly be John Constantine and encounter all of the challenges he faces with an incredible arsenal of artifacts and incantations."

"We are excited to release a product that captures the true essence of Constantine, such a highly anticipated film," said Peter Dille, senior vice president, worldwide marketing, THQ.

"The game allows movie and video game fans alike to take control of the action and experience each terrifying moment firsthand."

In the game you play the role of John Constantine, who’s sole duty is to hunt down pure evil which has laid beneath modern Los Angeles. The motion picture is set to release nationwide tomorrow, February 18th.

THQ and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced today the release of Constantine for the Xbox video game system from Microsoft and PlayStation 2.

The game, developed by Bits Studios, is based on the upcoming Warner Bros. Pictures release of Constantine, an adaptation of the DC Comics/Vertigo Hellblazer graphic novels.

Earlier today SEGA Europe and SEGA of America announced Condemned, a first-person psychological suspense game developed exclusively for the next generation consoles and PC. In Condemned you play as Ethan Thomas, and FBI Agent, who’s duty is to track serial killers.

"SEGA expects Condemned to engage the game player with visceral, in-your-face, urban combat and an unparalleled level of unpredictability," stated Scott A. Steinberg, vice president of entertainment marketing, SEGA of America. "The atmospheric tension and cinematic qualities of Condemned offer consumers the rich experience of a psychological thriller; something that has not been accomplished on previous hardware platforms."

"New leaps in technology are allowing our teams to create immersive game environments that are incredibly realistic," Samantha Ryan, CEO of Monolith Productions. "Monolith’s goal with Condemned, is to combine a disturbing atmosphere with realistic physics, devious AI, and a sophisticated combat system."

"Condemned represents an aggressive product acquisition strategy created to compliment SEGA IP with market-appropriate next-generation games."

Gaming publication Game Informer has commented: "Condemned has redefined the horror genre (March 2005)." Condemned is expected to ship winter of 2005 for the next generation of consoles and PC.

Due to 30 cited incidents worldwide of Xbox power cords causing minor injury or property damage, Microsoft has taken a precautionary action and decided to replace all 14.1 million Xbox power cords worldwide.

The new replacement power cords are being designed to protect consumers and their Xbox consoles from the documented electrical failures that pose a fire hazard. Although the likelihood of a defect is minimal, less than 1 in 10,000 consoles, Microsoft has said they will replace the cords which can cause console or cord damage.

Recorded instances of the defect are 7 cases of customers having reported burns to their hands, and 23 incidents of customers reporting smoke or minor damage to their property. All Xbox consoles outside of Europe manufactured before October 23, 2003 require the replacement. In Europe, all consoles manufactured before January 13, 2004 require the update.

Midway Games today announced The Suffering: Ties That Bind, sequel to the genre-defining and award winning action/horror game, The Suffering. Developed by Midway’s internal studio, Surreal Software, The Suffering: Ties That Bind is scheduled to ship for the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system, the Xbox videogame system from Microsoft and PC in Fall 2005.

The
U.S. Army has received a distress signal from Area 51 where a viral
outbreak has just shut down the research facility. A small Hazardous
Materials unit led by specialist Ethan Cole is sent to investigate. As

discovering a deadly mutagenic side effect of the virus that controls
the minds of those infected, as well as an ancient alien colony buried

Today Midway announced the latest addition to the upcoming trilogy, Midway Arcade Treasures 3. The third addition to the series comes after the second having sold one-million-plus units in 2004, and the first in 2003.

Midway Arcade Treasures 3 will give gamers more of their favorite arcade classics in a pint-sized form on their Xbox. Player rankings will be kept via Xbox Live this time around though, allowing you to prove you’re the best.

Midway Arcade Treasures 3 is set to ship in the fall of 2005 with an expected price tag of $19.99.

The Inquirer and other sources have revealed that Microsoft may be planning to develop a first-party wireless controller as the standard for the next Xbox. This controller is expected to follow the design of the controller-s and with Microsoft’s vast experience dealing with wireless, it can be done easily.

"Well, there is now a blossoming market for wireless peripherals for all three major consoles, and Microsoft has spotted this. The Xbox was lauded for having controller wires that were incredibly long, and now they have gone one better by making wireless controllers standard on the Xbox 2. We don’t think the controller is going to change much in size or shape from the Controller S design that is currently shipping, apart from this added wireless functionality," stated The Inquirer.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Electronic Arts and Ubisoft are holding talks regarding Ubisoft’s dismissal of EA’s potential acquisition of 20% stock in Ubisoft due to hostile reasoning.

Ubisoft has considered EA’s potential purchase in the stock as hostile and says they will hold that stance until the two companies talk. “It’s completely normal that the two should be talking; the Ubisoft management had mentioned this would happen,” said Laurent Lamagnere, an analyst with CA Chevreux. “They don’t mind talking, what they’re more reluctant to do is to give EA a seat on the board.”

Earlier today at a joint press conference in Seoul, Korea, David Jones(the creator of Grand Theft Auto) and Webzen, Inc.(publisher) unveiled Mr. Jones’ All Points Bulletin title. In the press conference it was announced that Webzen was awarded the rights to worldwide publication of the online game, being developed by David Jones’ UK-based development firm, Real Time Worlds.

David Jones had this to say: "As an avid gamer and creator of many single player games, it has been my dream to create an online game experience that provides the player with the ultimate freedom to do whatever he wants, in a thriving, living environment."

"When looking for a publishing partner for APB, it was imperative to find a company that was a worldwide leader in online games and we found that in Webzen, Inc," added Jones.

"APB is an online game that we think will fuel the worldwide growth of online gaming," stated Nam Joo Kim, CEO of Webzen, Inc. "As Webzen, Inc. continues to expand into new markets around the world, it was important to find a property that translated to a broad audience. We are very excited about APB’s potential."

All Points Bulletin is a massively online multiplayer game which allows thousands of gamers to play in huge cities, seperated into two divisions. Those divisions are squads and gangs, with squads having their duty of upholding the law and fighting off gangs, and gangs trying to create havoc. All Points Bulletin is slated to release in early 2007, with no specific target platform set, but with XNA’s possibilities of a common PC and Xbox enviroment the Xbox 2 would be a great suitor.

All Points Bulletin will be showcased at E3 this year as well, allowing gamers to get a first glimpse of the game and it’s marvel.

Today, according to various video game vendors, the release date for Conker: Live & Reloaded has been delayed to June 2005 from it’s March 2005 release date. This change is unexpected and out of the blue, with no response from Rare as of yet.
